The Economic Vision of Canada – Next 150 Years

 

Contest Details, Rules and Guidelines:

A)    SPONSOR

The sponsor of this Scholarship is National Federation of CIBPA (the “Sponsor”).

B)    INTRODUCTION:

In order to help bring attention to the need for scholarship and fresh ideas in Canada, the National Federation Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association (National Federation) is launching a Scholarship Program. The program invites essays on the topic of an economic vision of Canada.

C)    Scholarship Program

This Scholarship Program Begins at 12:01 A.M.  Eastern Standard Time (EST) on January 31, 2019 and ends at 11:50 P.M. EST on March 31, 2019.

D)    ELIGIBILITY

The Scholarship Program is open to legal residents of Canada who are in a full time University or College program. Students of Canadian/Italian origin (where your family history consists of Italian ancestors) and students in Italian studies attending any Canadian University or College at the time of entry (each an “Entrant”) may apply.

All Entrants who are minors in their province or territory of residence must obtain permission from their parent or legal guardian to participate in the Scholarship Program. In such cases, the parent or legal guardian will be deemed to be the Entrant who must comply with all Program requirements set forth herein and who may accept the Scholarship on behalf of the minor recipient.

The National Federation reserves the right to limit, or restrict upon notice, participation in the nomination process to any person at any time for any reason.

E)     HOW TO ENTER

To enter, visit CIBPA.com , and submit an original essay on “If I were the Federal Minister of Finance, what economic vision* would I offer to improve our living standards**” along with his/her name, valid email address and postal address. Each completed submission qualifies as one (1) entry to the Program.

F)     SUBMISSION CONDITIONS

Only one (1) essay per Entrant will be accepted. Essays exceeding the 2,500 word length may not be considered. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, or incomplete entries, or entries not received for any reason. By entering, Entrant warrants that his or her entry: a) is original and does not infringe the copyright or intellectual-property rights of any third party; b) has not been published in any medium; and c) has not previously won an .

G)    ESSAY SUBMISSION FORMAT

  • Essay Cover Page: The cover page should display the title of the essay and contain an abstract of at most 250 words. Information on the author (s) should not be presented on the cover page or in the abstract. Information on the authors can only be present in the list of referenced documents.
  • Essay Word Limit: The main text should contain at most 2,500 words, not counting notes and reference lists. Sources should be cited consistently using APA Citation. The abstract should not be more than 250 words and must be included in the essay document.
  • Reference Page: A Reference Page is to be included, as appropriate, before the Tables and Appendices (if applicable). The Reference Page will be in APA formatting.
  • Essay Margins and Spacing Requirement: The format should be minimum 12-point font, 1 inch /2.5 centimeter margins.
  • Essay Document and Page Formatting: The submission should be Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format.
  • Essay Language: Essays are to be submitted in English or French. Please note: Bilingual judges will be on panel.

H)    PLAGIARISM

Any form of academic dishonesty and plagiarism will not be tolerated by The National Federation. Plagiarism consists of using the work and/or ideas of others as your own. Please cite all work or ideas which have been utilized in your essay. This form of dishonesty will be taken very seriously and may result in the withdrawal of any scholarship granted to a participant of the Program.

I)       CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

No transfer, assignment, or substitution of Scholarship. Nothing in these official Program rules shall obligate Sponsor to publish or otherwise use any entry submitted in connection with this Scholarship. All federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations apply. Entrants agree to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this Program. By entering, Entrant represents that any essay, etc., and other materials submitted as part of Entrant’s Scholarship entry are the original work of Entrant and not copied from any other source and will not constitute defamation or an invasion of privacy or otherwise infringe upon the rights of any third party, and that the Entrant owns or has the rights to convey any and all right and title in such essay. In addition, by entering, Entrant grants to Sponsor and its affiliates a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to edit, publish, promote, and republish at any time in the future and otherwise use Entrant’s submitted essay, along with Entrant’s name, likeness, statements, biographical information, and any other information provided by Entrant, in any and all media for possible editorial, promotional, or advertising purposes, without further permission, notice, or compensation (except where prohibited by law).

Potential candidate, as a condition of receiving any Scholarship, will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and, where legally permissible, a Publicity Release and confirmation of a license as set forth above within 7 days following the date of first attempted notification, certifying, among other things, the following: (a) entry does not defame or invade the privacy of any party; (b) entry does not infringe upon the rights of any third party; and (c) the essay and other materials submitted are original and have never been published and entry has never won any other award. Failure to comply with this deadline may result in forfeiture of the Scholarship and selection of an alternate applicant. Return of any notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate recipient.

Acceptance of the Scholarship constitutes permission for Sponsor and its affiliates to use Entrant’s name and/or likeness, biographical information, essay, and other materials submitted for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. By entering and/or accepting Scholarship, Entrants and recipient agree to hold and indemnify Sponsor, its parent, affiliates, and their respective promotional partners, directors, officers, and employees harmless for liability, damages, or claims for injury or loss to any person or property, relating to, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, participation in this Program, the acceptance and/or subsequent use or misuse or condition of any of the prizes, or any claims including but not limited to claims based on publicity rights, defamation, invasion of privacy, or copyright infringement. False or deceptive entries or acts will render the Entrant ineligible.

Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the immediate and unrestricted right to disqualify any Entrant or Recipient, if either commits or has committed any act or has been involved or becomes involved in any situation or occurrence which the Sponsor deems likely to subject the Sponsor, Entrant, or Scholarship Recipient to ridicule, scandal, or contempt or which reflects unfavorably upon the Sponsor in any way. If such information is discovered by the Sponsor after a candidate has received notice of his/her  and before the Scholarship is, the Sponsor may rescind the  in its entirety. If a portion of his/her has already been, Sponsor may withdraw the remainder of the Scholarship that has been fulfilled. Decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding in all matters related to this paragraph. Sponsor is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the offer, administration of the Scholarship Program, or in the announcement of the Scholarship.

J)       Scholarship Program  

There is one (1) available to be allocated in Canada consisting of a monetary Scholarship amount of CAD $2,500.

The Scholarship is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and must be accepted with no substitutions. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute and/or modify the scholarship for any reason.

K)    JUDGING /  DETERMINATION

Final selection will take place by the National Federation of CIBPA no later than April 30, 2019. All entries will be judged by a panel made up of the National Federation Board of Directors/ Past Presidents and members of the community (the “Panel”). Decisions of Panel are final and binding.

All submitted essays will be judged on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Creativity - The goal is for you to display your ability to think “outside the  box”— and provide information that is new and inventive - 25%
  • Usefulness – It is important to convey the way in which the ideas in your essay are tangible and can be utilized to make a significant difference in society - 25%
  • Structure - Be sure to communicate your ideas in an organized manner - 25%
  • Exceptionality – An exceptional essay is one that will utilize incredible vocabulary, mature ideas, and advanced written ability. Take advantage of these points by impressing the selection committee - 25%

Each essay will be given a score by the Panel based on the above criteria. The essay with the highest score, as determined by the Panel in their sole and absolute discretion, will be selected as the eligible winner (subject to verification and compliance with these Rules).

Sponsor will contact the eligible recipient via email to inform the successful applicant (the “Successful Applicant Notification”). If the eligible recipient cannot be contacted within 7 business days of the first attempt to contact (including failing to reply to the Selection Notification) or, if contacted, does not claim their , or does not meet all of the Program conditions outlined in these rules, the eligible recipient will be disqualified and forfeits their Scholarship, and the Entrant with the second highest score will be the eligible recipient whom the Sponsor will attempt to contact, and who will be subject to disqualification in the same manner. This process will continue until contact is made with an eligible recipient who meets the Program requirements or until there are no more eligible entries, whichever comes first. The Sponsor is not responsible for failed attempts to notify any eligible recipient.  Upon forfeiture, no compensation will be given.

L)     RECIPIENT CONDITIONS

In order to receive an , each selected candidate will be required to sign and submit the Declaration and Release Form within the specified time as listed in the “Conditions of Participation” section. If a selected recipient does not sign and submit the Declaration and Release Form, or if a participant is otherwise found to be ineligible, the selected recipient will forfeit the scholarship and, at the National Federation’s discretion, the next highest scoring submission may be determined to be an alternate recipient.

M)   Scholarship  Distribution

Once confirmed as a successful applicant, the Scholarship will be presented at the 2019 National Federation Meeting or at a local CIBPA Chapter event sometime in June 2019 – Italian Heritage Month (time and place to be determined). Scholarship recipients are responsible for any applicable taxes related to any scholarship funds received.

N)    INTERNET

Sponsor is not responsible for lost or late entries nor for electronic-transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone-equipment, electronic, computer, hardware, or software malfunctions or limitations of any kind, or inaccurate transmissions of or failure to receive entry information by Sponsor or presenter on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or any combination thereof. If for any reason the Internet portion of the program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Scholarship  Program, the Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Scholarship Program. Sponsor reserves the right to select winners from eligible entries received as of the termination date.

CAUTION: Any attempt by an applicant to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the game is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such Applicant to the fullest extent of the law. If there is a dispute as to the identity of the Entrant, the Scholarship will be to the authorized account holder of the e-mail address. The “authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person to whom the e-mail address is assigned.

O)    MODIFICATION/TERMINATION

Subject to applicable law, the Sponsor reserves the right, in their sole discretion and without liability, to terminate or suspend the Program in whole or in part, or modify the rules of the Program at any time without notice if fraud, technical failures including any network server or hardware failure, viruses, bugs, errors in programming, or communications or any other errors or other causes beyond the control of the Sponsor that corrupts the administration, integrity or security of the Scholarship Program or if any other factor interferes with the conduct of this  as contemplated by these Rules, or for any other reason at the sole discretion of the Program Sponsor. In such event, the Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, choose to select (a) winner(s) via random drawing from among all eligible entries received up until the time of cancellation, termination, modification, or suspension.

P)     PRIVACY - All information provided will only be used for the purpose of this Program.

The Sponsor is collecting personal data about Entrants for the purpose of administering this Program. No further informational or marketing communications will be received by Entrants.

Q)    GOVERNING LAW

This Program is governed by the internal laws of the Canada without regard to principles of conflict of laws.

R)    RECIPIENT’S  LIST

The name of the Recipient will be noted on the National Federation web site for a period of at least 60 days.

* Economic vision pertains to the production, distribution, and use of income, wealth, and commodities.
**Living standards are referred to as the level of wealth, comfort, material goods and necessities available to a certain socioeconomic class in a certain geographic area.
